Waiver Eligibility

Waiver Eligibility Policy

The Journal of Social Science Perspectives (JOSSP) is dedicated to fostering inclusive and equitable access to academic publishing. In recognition of financial challenges faced by researchers in low-resource settings, JOSSP offers a structured Article Processing Charge (APC) waiver program to support authors who may lack the means to cover publishing costs.

  1. Eligibility Criteria

Authors may apply for a full or partial APC waiver if they meet the following conditions:

  • Institutional Affiliation: The corresponding author is affiliated with a recognized academic or research institution located in a low-income country, as designated by the World Bank.
  • ORCID Registration: A valid ORCID iD is required from the corresponding author to ensure authorship transparency.
  • Financial Documentation: A formal letter of support from the institution’s finance office or research administration must be submitted, verifying the author’s inability to pay the APC.
  • Timing: The waiver request must be submitted simultaneously with the manuscript, clearly mentioned in the cover letter, and accompanied by required documentation.
  1. Eligible Countries

JOSSP adheres to the World Bank’s current list of low-income and select lower-middle-income countries. Authors affiliated with institutions in the following countries are encouraged to apply for an APC waiver:

Afghanistan, Angola, Benin, Bhutan, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cambodia, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Haiti, Honduras, Indonesia, Kenya, Kyrgyz Republic, Lao PDR, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mozambique, Nepal, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Solomon Islands, Somalia, South Sudan, Tajikistan, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Vanuatu, Yemen, Zambia, Zimbabwe.

  1. Application Process

To apply for a waiver, authors must:

  • Clearly indicate the APC waiver request in the manuscript submission cover letter.
  • Upload the formal financial hardship statement alongside the manuscript.
  • Confirm that all eligibility requirements are met at the time of submission.

The JOSSP Editorial Board will evaluate all waiver requests on a case-by-case basis.

  1. Review and Notification
  • Authors will receive a formal response from the editorial office within 14 working days of submission.
  • APC waiver decisions are made independently of the peer review process to ensure editorial integrity.
  • Waiver availability is contingent upon JOSSP’s annual funding and resource allocation.
